Rockin N Rollin Cupcake Style!

Picture 5

You already know her… yeah I’m talking bout Kara, the world’s cutest baby!  Ms Kara turned the big ONE year old this past weekend and I was super duper excited to be asked to make the cuppies for the big occasion! The theme was Rock N Roll Baby! Mom is a Derby Chick so I was not surprised! :) Naturally, I asked Kristina at Ink Wink to do the flags as an added bonus to the overall look, plus I thought it was a great way to have a keep sake for the big day!

The colors were hot pink and black… ps black icing is impossible. I’ll save you the mystery solving… unless you want to add more coloring that any human should consume, be happy with dark grey icing. I decided to bake the Oreo cookie yellow cake cuppies, you know the ones with the whole cookie INSIDE? Yes! So good! I colored some of the yellow cake to be pink, to go along with the pink theme!

I used the t 1M tip to create a pretty swirl with black sugar  and hot pink nonpareils. Along with using the “two toned icing in one bag” trick, tah dah! I picked up some amazing skate toppers and pink pinwheels toppers from a favorite on Etsy. 11153_374472165651_506030651_10011685_5179463_n I was also given the honor of making the Smash Cake for Ms Kara.  For those of you going, “smash cake?” its a tradition on a child’s first birthday to be given a separate small cake to devour on their own….plus it makes amazing pictures to put on their Senior Picture Page in high school! ha!

Ms Kara showed she is truly a lady as she was super duper dainty and simply dipped her finger in the cake to try it out.  This continued for a while until her Mom guided her hand into the cake, assuring her it was ok to make a mess.  She did not devour the cake, but did enjoy the area she got into.

Everyone enjoyed the cupcakes and the day was a success! I can’t wait to make Ms Kara’s cupcakes for year 2!
